Jane Henry and Maisy Archer-Knave

Now that Jane and Maisy have finished off their Boston Doms series, they have teamed up to bring us a new series. This one is called the Masters of Manhattan. You would think that with a name like Masters of Manhattan, there is going to be all kinds of sexy kinkery or a new club, but you would be somewhat mistaken. There is spanking and bondage, but it’s nowhere like it is in some of their other books. So, let’s find out what Knave and the Masters of Manhattan is really about, shall we?

Anson “Saint” Daly is a cat burglar, and a damn good one. He’s highly successful and he loves what he does. He’s also a bit of an adrenaline junkie, and being a good thief feeds that for him, even if he does make sure that he has a very, very well-thought out and executed plan that he always sticks too. When he gets an invitation to show up at a penthouse, he’s intrigued by it and the message, so off he goes. When he gets there, he finds out that there are several other men there to meet. Xavier, Caelen, Walker, and Ethan have all gotten the same invitation that he has. They all have their own specialties, but none of them seem to have any connection to each other. That is, until the video that was made by Eugenia Carmichael started to play.

Eugenia’s husband had died, but even though it looked like a natural death, it wasn’t one. She revealed the thing that tied these 5 men together. They had all lost someone they loved and they were all killed by the same person or persons. In Anson’s case, it was his mother. She left the men her not inconsiderable fortune and her penthouse and gave them all the information that she had so that they could track down who killed her husband and their loved ones, and make them pay.

The 5 men decided to start a security company, Masters Security Systems, Inc. On the surface, they are white hat hackers and thieves. They install and test out security systems, showing where things can get broken into or stolen, and pointing that out to their clients. However, their real purpose is to use their less legal skills and talents to find the information they need.

Tonight, they are trying to get some information from the office of a dead attorney named Fowler. He had been arrested and sentenced to prison and was killed in prison. The Masters knew that his office was going to be cleared out and he had information that they needed, so in went Anson to get it. Only, Anson didn’t get the information. What he did get was Sabrina.

Sabrina was the dead man’s daughter. She was there to pick up a picture of her and her father when someone came rushing into the office. The security guard shoved her in a closet and told her to stay quiet. Then he was killed. Whoever killed that poor man broke into her father’s safe and took all the information. So, when Anson came in, he found the dead body, an empty safe, and Sabrina. He decides that he will take her, because maybe she has some information.

When everyone gets back to the penthouse, the guys find out that she is Fowler’s daughter, but she doesn’t know what they need. But, it’s not going to be safe for her to go home, which means that she’s going to stay with them. Anson offers her his room and tells her that he will take the couch.

I’ll bet that you can tell that Anson and Sabrina are our focus couple. And you would be right. But, even though they are our focus couple, there is more than just them going on. We are also getting a lot of story and conspiracy. Sabrina’s dad was killed by the same people who got the guys’ family members, so they all have a common cause. So, we are getting to see a lot about their plans, what the conspiracy is, and stuff like that. The relationship stuff and the sex scenes are peppered in there like, well, pepper in a stew. It works really well. I have a tiny inkling as to who our next couple may be, but I’m probably wrong. Maisy and Jane didn’t leave us any clue. Sneaky, tricksy authors.

I think, maybe, just possibly, that X may be our next hero, because he does take a woman back to her house at one point. We don’t see who and I don’t know if she was just some kind of cover or what, but that’s my best guess. Now watch them both come and say oh, silly blogger, you are so, so, wrong.

Max Pederson is just gross. Gross, gross, gross. I think he needs a good smack around the earhole. Maybe Caelan can oblige? That would be really nice.

I think that Sabrina fits in really well with our guys, and is going to be like the heart of the team.

So, that’s all I have to say about this one. I’m really excited to be in at the start of a new series by these ladies, so I’m really looking forward to the next books. Go check it out! Happy reading!

Dani Rene-Indulge

I have some mad love for Dani Rene and her writing. I’ll read anything that she’ll put out. I have her newest books, and I’m slowly but surely working on getting her back catalog too. My poor Kindle. It’s a good thing that virtual shelves can’t get weighed down the way that physical shelves can. Anyway, all this leads to her newest release, Indulge.

Indulge is the 3rd book in the Sins of Seven series, which surrounds the BDSM club, the Seven Sins. And if you were wondering if the name has anything to do with the seven deadly sins, then the answer is yes. Each book is roughly themed around one of the sins, which are: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth. I think it’s a very interesting way to write a series about sex, vice, and kink.

So, this is Carrick’s story. Carrick has been pretty involved in the other two books. Not only is he co-owner of the Seven Sins, but he is also good friends with Eva, and he trained her as a sub. Gia worked as a bartender at the Seven Sins. I’m quite excited to get Rick’s story, because I’ve always thought that he was a fascinating character, and each glimpse we got of him during each of the books just fascinated me even more. I’m trying to claim Carrick for my very own, but I’ve been told he’s already been claimed. I’m more than willing to fight for him, and I cheat.

Carrick is a bit of a promiscuous Dom. Unlike his friend and partner, Mason, he doesn’t have his own sub. Rick is more than happy to go and grab hold of everything that his club has to offer. When he wants a sub, he just hits the floor and grabs one, or two, or three. The more, the merrier, and the more fun Carrick has. The benefit of doing it this way is that he gets off but he doesn’t risk any kind of entanglement. Everyone knows that Carrick doesn’t do relationships and that anyone who goes to play with him is going to have a good time, so he’s in great demand.

Peyton feels the need to get away from her life. She’s just gone through a really shitty time in her life, between her parents dying and her fiance ending up in jail. She is just ready to not deal anymore. So when her best friend Savannah calls her up and invites her to come visit her in Chicago, Pey is all for it, even if it means that she will miss her twin brother, Chance. Savannah is Mason’s longtime sub, and has been telling Peyton all about her life. Peyton is reasonably sure that she’s a sub, and she would like to have the chance to find out, so going to Chicago will let her get away from her current life and start over as well as let her experiment and discover more about herself.

Savvie and Mason have said that they will help Peyton, but they have both warned her off of Carrick. Everyone knows that Carrick isn’t a trainer, and that’s what Peyton needs. So, of course, who’s the first person that Peyton runs into at the club? Yup, you guessed it.

Dani knows how to craft a good story. She has such a way with words. It really makes her characters feel real and makes you feel what they are feeling. I mean, I not only read her books for the hot sex and relationships, but I read them because of how the story itself makes me feel and how I can relate to the characters. I’m never going to turn down reading a book about hot sex, well, probably never, but add in a great story and fantastic characterization on top of it? Yeah. Also, I’d pay lots of money to listen to Dani read me her books. I’m pretty sure it would sound so awesome. There are all kinds of secrets going on in the book. It seems like everytime a character turns around, they are falling over another secret, which makes for exciting reading. As much as I like Carrick, and I really like Carrick, there are a few times that he acts like a giant dickbag, and I want to smack the shite out of him. There were a few times that I had tears running down my face. All in all, it’s another great Dani book, and I’m really looking forward to the next few books in the series because there are going to be all kinds of interesting things happening.

OK, I’m just warning anyone who hasn’t read my blog before that if you have made it down here, this is where I talk about spoilers and potential spoilers. If you keep reading past here and you get spoiled, you have no one but yourself to blame.

I think that Carrick should’ve told Peyton about Aurora long before he did. That’s one of the things that I got so mad at him about. It would’ve saved everyone so much heartbreak and pain if he had, in my opinion.

I was surprised that Oliver was the voice of reason when he was talking to Peyton. I don’t know why I’m surprised about it, but I just was.

Mason had better marry Savvie soon. Having her collared is a good thing, but she wants a ring. He’d better be planning something good.

OK, those are my thoughts on Indulge. Go pick it up, as well as Kneel and Whisper. You won’t regret it. Happy reading!

Celia Aaron-The Maiden

I know that this isn’t the first Celia Aaron’s book I’ve had here, but the other one I had wasn’t dark. This one is dark. Dark af. And it’s a mindfuck. So, hey, that’s great. Hits a lot of my happy buttons.

Celia Aaron writes books that are set in the South. She’s kind of a modern Flannery O’Connor, if Flannery wrote dark, noncon, erotic, thrilling, suspenseful romance. I mean, you get a real taste of the places where she’s writing about, mostly because she’s from the places she’s writing about. That’s also why her lawyers are really authentic too, because she was a lawyer. Anyway, I love reading her books because of all the work she puts into creating her worlds and how they really enhance the story. So, let’s get to The Maiden.

The Maiden is the first book in The Cloisters trio. Well, I don’t know if trio is the right word, but that’s the one I’m going with. There are going to be three, The Maiden, The Prophet which releases in May, and The Church, which releases in June. If you don’t like waiting reading a duet or trio like this one at a time, I would probably suggest that you wait until Church releases. I won’t be, because I neeeeeeeeeed to have them in my hot little hands the second they come out.

So, here’s the lowdown. There is a cult, a church called Heavenly Ministries. The church is run by the Prophet, Leon Monroe. He used to be just a good Baptist pastor,  but then God talked to him and told him to create Heavenly Ministries. The church is basically an end-times are coming, the apocalypse is coming, the end of the world will happen, but if you are a member of our church and live in perfect obedience, you can be saved, kind of church. Things may not necessarily make a lot of sense, but if you have a charismatic leader, like it appears good old Leon is, you can hook people who are looking for something. There are always going to be people who are searching for something or someone or the right path.

Every year, there are Maidens who are accepted into the Cloister. The Maidens are beautiful young virgins. Some go back home at the end of the year and some end up married to someone rich and powerful. The draw of becoming one of the Maidens is that they are choice women, pure and chaste, and their year in the Cloister will keep them safe and pure. Of course, if that’s all there was, I probably wouldn’t have read this book and wouldn’t be talking about it here.

Delilah has been chosen as one of this year’s crop of 12 Maidens. She’s done everything she can to make sure that she was one of the chosen. She follows everything the Prophet says, she goes to church every chance she gets, she is meek, mild, and modest. On the night that she enters the Cloister, there is a big ceremony. The Maidens are led to a huge bonfire where there is a circle of men. They stand in between the men and the fire. The Prophet goes on and on about the story of Abraham and Rebecca. Then, each Maiden is given to a Protector who is going to help her, guide her, and train her for the next year.

Delilah looks at the man across the way from her, and it’s Noah Monroe, the Prophet’s younger son. She thinks that’s OK. Standing right next to him is his older brother, Adam. Adam sees something a little rebellious in Delilah and he trades places with him so that he can become her Protector.

The young women all think that wonderful things are going to be happening. But Adam, Noah, and the other guys all know that it’s not. The Protectors haul their Maidens to the Cloister, where they are told to take off their clothes and get a new name from the Prophet. When they are allowed to get dressed again, they get a birth control shot and a microchip tracker shot into their arm. That’s when things start getting real.

Delilah had an idea as to what would be happening, because she’s there trying to find out information about a young woman named Georgia. Georgia went to be a Maiden, but was later found dead. Delilah knows that the secret of Georgia’s death lies in the Cloister. The only way she could get there was to join the church and become a Maiden. She thought that she knew how bad it was going to be, but she really didn’t.

OK, this book is really intense. It’s dark. There is really no fucking light in this book. There are some lighter black parts, but yeah, not light. There is all kinds of fucked up shit that goes on. It’s all kinds of triggering. There are triggers on top of triggers with a side of triggers. I mean, seriously. Triggers. The Spinners, the women in charge of the Maidens, are sadistic bitches, especially Grace. The Protectors, well, aren’t. Terrible things happen to the Maidens. I would say that they are fucked, but that would probably be too nice to describe it. It is a really great book. I loved it. I couldn’t put it down. I quite literally read it until I was cross-eyed in the middle of the night and my Kindle was nearly falling on my face. That’s how much I got sucked into this book.

architecture-bright-building-1917

It’s a cliffhanger. I’m not going to lie to you. If you’ve made it down here, you know that you’re going to see spoilers, so you have no one to blame but yourself to find out that yes, it’s a cliffhanger.

I don’t know whether to like Adam or to hate Adam. I kind of want to do to both. I know what I feel about his father, and I haven’t yet come up with something bad enough to happen to him. I’m sure I will. I’m pretty sure that Adam has some kind of long game he’s playing here, but I don’t know what it is. I can’t wait to find out what it is though. It’s going to be interesting to find out. Of course, Celia is going to keep us guessing right until the end.

So, that’s all that I have to stay about this one. Really, check it out, especially if you like dark and dirty. Happy reading!

Maggie Ryan & Shanna Handel-The Wolf’s Demand

A few months ago, I wrote a review of a book called Princess of the Pack by Haven Handel, which is a nom de plume for Shanna Handel. It was a good book that I enjoyed. It featured wolf shifters, evil spirits, and domestic discipline. It was low on the steam scale, but it was a sweet, lovely read. Well, Shanna decided to pull the book and partner with Maggie Ryan to do some reworking on it. It’s still the same basic story, but has a definite steam factor added in, and has been fleshed out.

So, let’s get into The Wolf’s Demand. Here’s our story. Cassandra and Deo Ambrosia are married. They’ve been going through a difficult stage of their marriage, and it’s been very hard and cold at their house. They are either arguing or ignoring each other. Right up until the night that Cassandra comes home and tells Deo that she’s leaving. There are all kinds of reasons that this isn’t a good thing. Deo basically says the hell you are, and takes her into his office and spanks her. She didn’t really want to leave, she just wanted to get his attention, and that was the only way she could do it. Turns out, she really, really likes him spanking her and it worked out well for them.

The next day, she walks into her law practice late, on purpose, so that she didn’t have to sit down at the partner’s meeting, after all, her ass was still tender. Her friend Cynthia asked her about it, and Cassandra told her about it. Then Cassandra goes out to lunch with Andrew, another lawyer at the practice. He has a thing for Cassandra, it’s pretty obvious. When Deo shows up where they are having lunch, Andrew tries to get all alpha male with him, but the problem is, Deo is the Alpha, and it’s hard to out-alpha the alpha. When Cassandra gets back to work, there is a strange man there who tells her that Deo sent him and that she should come with him.

Deo and his family are Greek. Their names all have special meanings, and when you meet them, they are more than happy to tell you the meanings. Deo means godlike. Balthazar, AKA Baal, means protector of the king. Draco means dragon, but also means guardian, and he’s there to protect Cassandra. Alekos, who is Deo’s little brother, means protector of mankind. And Xander means protector. Yeah, it’s important to know all those things.

So, the Ambrosia family is hiding a secret. Hundreds of years ago, back in Greece, an ancestor was cursed. They have to fight against evil and they shift into wolves. Most of the time, the evil spirits they have to fight against stay away. But, every now and again, when an Ambrosia breaks a solemn vow, like oh, telling her husband that she’s leaving, the evil spirits are able to break through. That’s what has happened here, and that’s why Deo sent Baal to pick up Cassandra from her office. Deo has Baal take Cassandra to a castle in upstate New York, where the Ambrosia family has gathered. Deo also tells Cassandra that their marriage is going to change. He knew that she was begging for him to control her and he’s going to do that know.

OK, here we go. Like I said, the basic story is the same from the original book. Or, at least the bones are. There are some changes, outside of the added sexy times scenes. There was a cheating storyline which is now gone, which I like. The storyline wasn’t as fleshed out as it could’ve been, so getting rid of it made the story better, IMO. The ending is also different, and I like the ending a lot better. I liked the original, I like the rework better.

afterglow-animal-backlit-247583

One of the changes I like a lot is the fact that we’re going to have a menage situation. I thought that there was a point in the original book where we were headed for a reverse harem, which would’ve been an interesting setup, but it didn’t go there, so I’m very pleased to see the menage set up in this book. We really didn’t see much of it in this book, just the setting up of it, and Cassandra agreeing to it, but the next book looks like we’ll have the full thing going on then.

So, that’s it for this one. Go hit up King Zon for it. Happy reading!
