Raisa Greywood-The Leopard Prince

Before I get to the review, if you want a Christmas card from me, you need to hit up the FB page and sign up. The signup closes tomorrow, so get to that. Now, on to the business of the day.

Today, we’re talking about the next book in Raisa’s Shifter’s Mate series, The Leopard Prince. It came out last week and if you haven’t gone to read the series, why haven’t you? It’s a great series and very well-written, but more than that, it’s the women in this series are the real powerhouses. It’s not like the guys are weak or anything, but it’s just that the women are so strong and determined that they are the real story drivers, if that makes sense. It makes sense in my head, at least. Sometimes it’s hard to translate what I’m thinking in my head into what comes out of my fingers, and since I’m the blogger trying to review, that’s not always great.

So, this one picks up where Mage ended. Dakar and Daiyu have offed his brother, who has been abducting the shifters, and if you remember, Renata tried to eat him. Daiyu would’ve been more than happy to finish the job, but…

Now that he’s out of the way, it’s time to get all the people off the Earth. So, after they have taken off from Tibet and gotten Di’s family and all the monks up to space, they talk to Renata, and find out that there’s a problem. There is a fleet on the way toward Earth and they aren’t going to be helpful to them. And the Ximerans can’t send someone out to get to them before this hostile fleet engages them. There is one warlord coming their way, but that’s because he’s chasing his runaway mate, Soledad, and she happens to be headed their way. Not only is she headed their way, she’s also picking off the fleet as she comes. Soledad has taken out some and captured others, but either way, she’s making it easier for Dakar and Daiyu.

This is where Daiyu shines. She’s not only a warrior, she’s been trained as a general. She’s a strategist. She’s also pretty charismatic, which can be helpful. And the fact that she is not just a snow leopard but she is THE snow leopard, the most powerful one, doesn’t hurt. That’s because she and Dakar decide that it’s better to take the enemies on on the ground, so they land where the largest concentration of people is, and many of them are shifters, and she manages to unite humans and shifters to get them to fight. She’s very good. I’d follow her.

So, again, I love Daiyu. She’s absolutely fantastic. She’s ruthless and practical. She will fuck you up so hard that you will wish that your great-great-great-grandparents never met. Renata, who I still think is the bomb, will go after you on a real personal level, but Daiyu will go after you, your family, your friends, that one person you had a crush on in the first grade, their families, and everyone ever associated with you. Do not fuck with her. There are a lot of people who learn this fact in this book, and she’s glorious about it. So many great things happened in this book. I cannot wait until the next book. Hopefully, Raisa won’t make us wait too long!

eabd12bf9b7c57d4e44589b6d777bed4

All those Ximeran women. That was surprising. There are going to be a lot of women there who are going to be super surprised about how things have changed, especially for anyone who thinks she’s going to get someone who is already mated to a shifter. I can’t wait to see what happens with that.

And Soledad’s ship blew up? Oh no!

OK, that’s all for today. Really, you need to go read this series. Happy reading!

“Why would I let the world see him? He’s imperfect. No, he needs to stick
to the shadows where he’ll not bring shame to this family.”

William Cavendish is…different. Too much so for his merciless father to
bear publicly. He was hidden away from the world his entire life until, in
one dark moment, he did the unthinkable to save his beloved brother,
gaining his own freedom in the process. But liberty has its own price.
William struggles with a world he doesn’t understand, emotions he’s never
experienced…and an alarming taste for the dark side he’s discovered
dwelling within him.

Formally educated in law, Tamara Bennett is unlike most women of the day.
Not bad for the daughter of a lowly lady’s maid. When she learns a secret
society was responsible for the torture of her closest acquaintance,
Victoria Cavendish, she vows to employ any and all means—legal or
otherwise—to bring the society to its knees. At her side is Victoria
herself, as well as Victoria’s husband, Nicholas, and his brother—the
intriguing and troubled William.

Delving ever deeper into London’s darkest shadows, an undeniable attraction
blooms between William and Tamara, bringing them closer and closer…until
their actions stir up perilous forces determined to tear them apart.

Felicity Brandon-Taken

So, in Taken, Felicity has decided to go all meta on us. I loved it. One warning, it is a serial, but the next 2 parts will be out in December and January, so Felicity isn’t going to be all that sadistic towards us. Just a little bit sadistic.

Molly Clary is an author. She’s an author who writes capture fantasy books, along with noncon/dubcon, objectification, and pet play aspects. She’s tremendously popular. So, she does as many authors do, and sets up readers’ groups on social media where she can connect with her readers and goes to signings. Her latest signing is in London, which is really far away from her home in Pennsylvania.

As she’s packing up to go back to her hotel at the end of her signing, a beautiful man comes up and asks her if it’s too late for him to get a book signed. When Molly tells him that it’s fine, he hands her a book called Amelie’s Abduction, and she signs it to Connor Reilly, a self-professed superfan.

When Molly leaves, she ends up wandering the streets of London around where the signing was so that she can find her car. Instead, what she finds is trouble. A pack of young men tries to attack her, but then Connor comes to her rescue. But only for so far. He ends up abducting her and taking her to his house, where he ties her down and chains her. And oh yeah, forces her to write their story. (See, that’s where it gets all meta)

So yes, not only has she been captured and is being held by Connor, she has to write all about it, because he is her biggest fan.

OK, this one is ridiculously hot and filthy, and it may have one of my new favorite scenes ever in it. And I say this admitting that Felicity has one of my favorite scenes ever in one of her Viking books. We get both Connor’s and Molly’s POV, but sometimes it seems to really blend together, so there are times when it seems like you are in both of their heads at the same time. There are times when it is very distinct. It works really well here. I wouldn’t suggest it for everyone or in every book, but like I said, it really did work here.

I loved watching all of the struggles and confusion that goes on in Molly’s head. It’s fascinating to see her go through trying to figure out what she should do at any given point and how she feels at any point in time. I would love to see what she’s writing, because I think that it would be a great window into her mind and how she’s feeling, even more than her POV in the book. Does that make sense? It makes sense to me, but you know how it is. Things we think make sense don’t always. I just think that seeing how she processed it through her writing would deepen our understanding of her. I also wonder what Connor thinks of her writings.

Ok, not so many spoilers here as much as a I love the fucking end of this story. I mean, WTF. I can’t wait to read it. And fucking hell, what a cliffie.

Go check it out. Happy reading!

He was the last thing she thought she needed, but she was everything he wanted.

Abused and alone, Kitty had no idea how far she’d have to flee after she finally got the courage to run. She never would have guessed she’d end up halfway around the world, or in the home — much less the arms — of dominant Australian whip-master, Noah Carver.

He knows she’s damaged, that she needs safety and time to heal, but the way her submission calls to him has Noah thinking more about what could be between them than her history.

The only question now is what she fears more: standing up to her abusive ex-dom, or staying with a man she’s afraid to love?

Hugging her towel, Kitty crept through the second kitchen archway, edging between the massive dining table and built-in china hutch, to peek out through the half-open drapes into the yard. She saw the radio first, sitting on the white-painted front porch rail, blaring its ‘80s music out into the yard where Noah was standing—no, not standing, dancing—step dancing, in form-fitting jeans, crocodile boots and worn tan hat, and a white t-shirt that fit him in a way that was at once loose and yet a second skin. She could see the ripple of muscle playing across his shoulders and back, bunching and flexing in his biceps as his arms moved to the beat, rising and falling, snapping out the rhythm with each of the whips he held, one in each hand. That was the source of the popping. Not one crack at a time, but two and three snaps to each fluid movement as he turned and stepped, and tapped his way through to the end of that Dire Straits song.

When it was over, the music paused long enough for him to reset himself. Head slightly bowed, he rolled his muscular shoulders, shook the whips out like long snakes in the dust around his feet, and then AC/DC started up. Thunderstruck. His foot started tapping. He found the beat, and then he began all over again. Fluid, graceful, line-dancing motions that he so effortlessly filled with a whole new accompaniment of tempo-keeping cracks from his whips.

She caught her breath, suddenly aware that her stomach was tightening and quivering right along with his punctuating music.

Abruptly retreating from the window, Kitty stood for a moment at the table, hands clutching and tightening and adjusting at her towel, feeling at once hot and flustered and confused and scared, and then stupid because she didn’t know why. Two tiny steps forward could have carried her back to the window for a second peek, but she made herself turn away.

The heavenly aroma of coffee drifted from the kitchen.

She hugged herself, knowing she ought to get dressed, but also knowing there was no way she was going back into her bedroom. Not now, possibly not ever.

She wandered as far as the living room, stopping again between the dark yawning maw of the hallway leading back to spider-infested doom — and the front door, with its multi-paneled glass windows that provided another peek at Noah out in the yard.

A sparkle of gold drew her eye into the living room. There wasn’t a lot of furniture to stumble around or useless decorations, but there were a lot of display boxes hanging on the walls. In each one, attached to a green-felt backcloth, was a coiled brown-plaited whip with a golden plaque the size of a business card. Noah’s name was engraved on each one, with the division of whip cracking that he’d won—most of which read simply ‘Mens’ Champion’—and the year. There were fifteen of them total, and they spanned nine years’ worth of achievements.

Scattered among them and along the fireplace mantel were pictures. Some of Noah at various ages; some of other people. Everybody had whips, and one was a newspaper clipping taken from the local paper in which the headline included both Noah’s name and the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where apparently he and others from the Australian Whipcrackers & Plaiters Association had put on the Opening Ceremony and, as the paper put it, opened the eyes of the world to the competitive sport of Australian whip cracking.

She was looking over his framed collection of Guinness World Record titles when the front door suddenly opened and Noah walked in. How she had missed hearing the music shut off, she didn’t know. It wasn’t as if he were trying to sneak up on her. The heavy tromp of his boots when he crossed the threshold, took one look at her in nothing but a towel, and abruptly stopped, was damn near deafening.

To his credit, he didn’t ogle her. He kept his eyes locked with hers and any hint of discernible expression locked tight behind a mask she could not read. It was probably disapproval. It had to be disapproval, though there wasn’t so much as a single censuring note in the way he finally said, “Rule Number Five, love. Admittedly, I did only specify shoes, but in my defense, I assumed you would know to put your clobbers on and not to go nuddy about.”

Both whips were in his hand, coiled and tied. But every experience she had in regards to whips had taught her how easy it was to make them ready for use again. It would have been so easy, especially with that thought running wild in her head, to be afraid of him. And yet, with his face void of expression, and his tone careful not to be too scolding, he made no move to come at her.

He smelled like sunshine, too, her brain supplied.

Like that should make a difference, she wanted the rest of her to argue, but in some weird way… it did make a difference. It was all she could smell, the sunshine, the dust and leather of his boots, the faint spice of his deodorant or soap, and the warm coffee spreading through the house. It made such a difference that, standing there, staring at him with those whips in his hand, her nipples budded into tight little peaks and a single thump of warm neglect pulsed between her tensing legs. She clutched her towel, tightening her thighs in an effort to kill the sensation, but like ripples on a still pond, that thump spread up through her belly, becoming a series of smaller pulses that she could feel steadily throbbing out through her sex and into her womb.

“You should not come in,” she whispered when they arrived there. “Someone might see…”

Bowdyn shrugged. “Would you prefer we fuck you out here? I am quite convinced we would attract much more attention were we to try that approach.”

“Do not be ridiculous,” she hissed.

“Kristin is right. It is much too cold to contemplate such a notion.” Nyle reached around her to open the door. “Come, we shall build a fire and make ourselves comfortable within.”

Kristin stood in the middle of her home, her hands on her hips and her irritation rising almost as quickly as her apprehension. She watched as the Celts set about the homey tasks of tending to the fire, lighting lamps and helping themselves to her—well, Merewyn’s—mead. Once matters were arranged to their apparent satisfaction, Nyle sat astride the bench she had set closest to the fire pit and beckoned her to approach. Uncertain what else she might do, Kristin obeyed.

He tilted his head to one side and gazed up at her. “You appear somewhat confused, Kristin. And perhaps even a little scared.”

“I am not afraid of you,” she retorted.

“Good. That is as it should be.”

“I am just…” She paused, drew in a breath, “I am not sure what you want me to do. This is all so… so strange to me. I do not know what you expect.”

“We expect you to obey us.” This from Bowdyn, who had approached to stand behind her. “Did we not mention this yesterday?”

“Yes. No… I am not quite sure…”

“Your memory is not usually so unreliable. A spanking will help with that.”

Kristin did not agree but chose instead to take issue with his suggestion that her recollection of events was flawed. “I do remember. I remember that you described me as strong-willed and obstinate.”

“Yes, and those are fine qualities for one engaged in trade. They are less needful in a woman who seeks to please her men.”

“But how? How can I please you? I have no idea what to do.”

“You were wed, were you not? A recent widow when first we met.”

“I do not think my husband shared my bed on more than a half dozen occasions, and even then, he was never…”

Bowdyn cupped her face between both his palms and ceased her halting explanation with a kiss. Just as he had the previous evening, he silenced her with his lips and Kristin melted in his arms.

His tongue probed her mouth as before, the intimacy causing her to clench even more. Bowdyn broke the kiss and nuzzled the end of his nose against hers. “We will tell you what you should do, and you will do it. Yes?”

“Yes,” she breathed. “Yes, please.”

Bowdyn stepped a pace back and folded his arms. His handsome features took on a sternness she was beginning to recognise. “I intend to spank you. Nyle will watch, and you may rely on him to ensure you remain still and as quiet as possible while you are punished. Then, when you are ready to accept instruction with rather less in the way of argument, we shall proceed to more pleasant pursuits. You will suck my cock, and at the same time Nyle will fuck you.”

She could only gape at him. Kristin had no problem in comprehending his words, but the acts he described were quite beyond her limited experience.

“I believe you have shocked our little Viking, brother. You must learn to be more delicate.” Nyle rose from the bench to trail the backs of his fingers down Kristin’s cheek. “But even so, you should now gather your wits and obey, little one. You may start by removing your clothes.”

“Are you going to run, Molly?” His voice was calm, and almost amused as it questioned her.
She shifted her gaze to follow the sound of his voice, her face no doubt portraying her anxiety on the subject. “No,” she lied, her tone breathless.
“No?” he repeated back to her as he stepped forward out of the black shadows of the furthest corner. His right brow arched in the tantalizing way it did when he knew he was onto a winner.
“No,” she confirmed, shaking her head for good measure.
He moved toward her laughing. “You could run, you know,” he went on, his gaze intense as his tall body loomed over her.
Molly blinked up at her captor. Free of her binds at last, she felt bolstered and no longer wanted to call him Master. She could never allow a monster like Connor to master her. “What?”
“You could run,” he affirmed. “If you wanted to? Your stories have always had an element of the cat and mouse about them, haven’t they, pet? I know you’d enjoy that, and if you didn’t already know, I love the thrill of the chase.”
Adrenaline spiked in her body as he spoke. Was he giving her permission to flee from him? Is that why he’d removed the chains? Was this just the latest game he wanted to play?
“Yes,” he answered her, although she was certain she hadn’t spoken the words out loud. “You can run, Molly, but you know if you run, I’m going to chase you, and you know I’m going to catch you.”
Her heart was pounding in her chest as she sat up straight beside him, pinning her wide-eyed gaze onto his. “Why are you saying this?” she mumbled. And how do you know all of this?
His smile widened, and he pulled up a box from nearby, seating himself beside her. “After all this time, pet,” he purred. “Don’t you think I know you by now? I knew you before we’d even met. I know what you’re thinking, Molly. You are quite literally an open book to me.”
She flushed, her head falling forward as though the admission was shameful. She was ashamed, because he was right. He did seem to know her. He knew what she was going to be thinking, what she wanted, and just how to control her. It was freaking infuriating.
“Look at me.” His voice was sterner, having taken on some of the quality which made the knot of anxious energy in her belly tighten. She complied, not wanting to rile the beast in him. Their eyes met, his mesmerizing green orbs utterly compelling. His hand came slowly to her face. Molly flinched out of instinct, but relaxed when he began to caress the side of her face with calm, gentle strokes. “This is your story, pet,” he mused. “Our story. If you want to run, then I am not going to stop you.”
“But you will chase me?” she whispered, her fear furling as simmering arousal at his touch began to flood her system. She knew she shouldn’t crave him, but she found herself leaning into the warmth of his hand. It was like a reflex. Despite the fact this was the same hand that had captured, and tormented her, it was also the hand that had rescued and comforted her – and pleasured her.
Connor’s chuckle resonated deeply inside of Molly’s body. “Of course,” he answered, his fingers tightening in her long dark hair. “I will chase you because you’re mine, pet. You belong to me now, we both know that, don’t we?” He hesitated as though he expected her to speak, but she merely blinked at him. Too terrified to respond. Too afraid of what her answer might be. “Molly?”
The sound of her name made her lips part. It was intimate, fanning the flames of her burgeoning need. “Yes, Master?” she said, her voice barely audible as she confessed the truth.
For a moment they just stared at one another, the admission lingering in the dank air around them.

“But that’s not the only reason I’d chase you,” he went on eventually. “I’d chase you because it’s what you want, Molly, isn’t it?”
The Dark Necessities trilogy continues in the twisted pages of Tamed, released in December, 2018, and concludes in the heart-stopping finale, Entwined (due January 2019)
