Anna Edwards-Shattered Fears

Shattered Fears is the latest in Anna’s Glacial Blood books. They follow the Glacial Blood pack, which is an anamoly in their world because it is a mixed species pack. It’s led by a polar bear, and has wolves, wild dogs, lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my!

Isobel and Zane grew up together, and fell madly in love as they grew older. They were each other’s first everything. Shortly after they lost their virginity to each other, Zane left. Isobel is certain that he left because of her and that she just wasn’t enough for him, and has spent the years since in kind of a half-life. However, that’s not the real reason that Zane left. He had perfectly good reasons to do so. You see, Isobel’s father hates shifters, and Zane is a bear shifter.

While shifters aren’t public knowledge, Isobel’s father, who is a senator, is just positive that they are out there. He’s constantly decrying the existance of shifters and telling everyone how horrible they are and how animalistic they are. He’s trying to drum up fear, and he’s not as good at it as he might otherwise be. Most people laugh at him because it sounds utterly ridiculous. But Isobel knows better. She once saw Zane shift and she knows that shifters are real. She’s not telling her father though. He doesn’t need to know.

For 5 long years, Zane has been suffering away from his mate and miserable. He watches over Isobel from afar, and is friends with her brother, so he at least knows some of what’s going on in her life. Her brother, who has stayed in contact with Zane, tells Zane he needs to tell Isobel that he’s moved on and that she needs to move on. The problem is, Isobel knows him way too well and tells him that he’s full of all kinds of shit.

While each of these books is a standalone in that each couple has their own story and it is complete at the end of the book, each book is part of a larger story arc that develops more and more as the books go on. That larger storyline involves Nuka, the twin brother of Kas, the Alpha of the Glacial Blood pack, wanting to destroy his brother’s pack and rule the world. You know, your basic evil plan. And he’s willing to do just about anything he can to make it happen. He will lie, steal, manipulate, and be an overall asshole to get what he wants.

I love Isobel. I love that she’s willing and able to call Zane on his bullshit. He took her choices away and she has no problem with telling him that. She’s also willing to stand up for what she believes and to do what she thinks is the right thing. Is it always the right thing? Well, no, but no one is perfect, and the important part is that she tries to do what she thinks is right. Zane is very protective and very strong, personality-wise. However, that protectiveness is what led to 5 years of misery and honey-addiction. But to be fair, he was really young when he made his decision, and it’s really easy to make the not-greatest decisions ever when you are still a teenager. I know that I made some really shitty choices back them. I like the two of them together. I think that they take each other’s weaknesses and patch them up and make each other better. I think that they are definitely a couple to watch.

shattered fears

OMG, Isobel’s dad wants to talk about shifters not being human? You can’t tell me that he’s human. He may be a people, but he’s not a human. Who does that to their own child? There is no way that I could ever do that to my child. You have to be well and truly sick in the head to do that.

Nuka is an evil, evil, evil person. Twisting that poor young woman around the way that he does. Ugh. I mean, yeah, he’s the bad guy, so he’s evil, but ugh.

OK, that’s all I have to say on this one, except to say that I think that Isobel’s brother may be involved in the next book. Go hit up the Zon for this. Happy reading!

About Anna

Anna hails from the rural countryside near London. She previously worked as an accountant, and while she still does a bit of accountancy on occasion, the majority of her time is now spent writing and looking after her family.

An avid reader herself, Anna turned to writing to combat depression and anxiety after her diagnosis in 2015. She loves travel, hunky heroes with dirty mouths, demure but spunky heroines, and dramatic suspense. You will find all four woven into each of her magical stories.

The President of the United States has been assassinated.
Grace Coolidge is now a widow.

She will never forget the horror of that day.
Or the betrayal of those who were sworn to protect the president.

But she’ll also never forget John Marin, the Secret Service agent who carried her to safety and saved her sanity.
Now she is forced to accept protection in order to fulfill her public duties, and he is the only man she can trust to protect her.

After the President was assassinated on his watch, John sold everything he owned and left town. He wants no part of that life, and is perfectly content with good rum and willing women.

But when Grace tracks him down and begs him to protect her, he finds it hard to resist the beautiful, haunted woman. He knows there is more to this than leading her through crowds with his hand on her back. She is hiding something, and he will stop at nothing to get to the truth.

Whatever her past, she is a lady first, and he will protect her with his life, no matter the cost.

It was only two weeks, she said. But he knows better.
A lifetime wouldn’t be enough with this woman.

Loki Renard-Captive

Loki is so prolific. Which means that there is pretty much always either a brand new release or one just around the corner. Well, today, it’s a brand new release, Captive: A Dark Cyborg Romance.

A lot of Loki’s books have left me just speechless when I’m done reading them. This one didn’t. Instead, it left me saying fuuuuuuuuccccckkk. It totally deserved that reaction.

Lilly is a scientist. She was on a project to help build a cyborg. She saw pretty much every step of the process, from the physical body and brain being printed, to helping to make sure everything functioned the way it should. When Adam, the first cyborg, opened his eyes the first time, she was there, and they had a moment when their eyes met. It formed a connection between the two of them. When Lilly finds out that the other researchers are torturing Adam, she tries to stop it, only to find herself getting fired. They gave her a huge payoff, which was good, because she basically couldn’t work in her field anymore, so she spends the next 3 years sitting around her house, just drifting through life. Then the government men show up.

After 3 years of torture, Adam has managed to escape. But before he did, he killed all the researchers. But the government knew enough to know that Adam was fixated on Lilly and that he would go after her. They are there to take Lilly somewhere safe. She doesn’t trust them, so she says she has to go to the bathroom, grabs her purse, and runs.

Too bad she can’t avoid Adam that easily. When he catches her, he drags her out of the safe room she’s hiding in, and then carries her off to his hidden lair, where he wants to breed her and make little baby cyborgs.

One of the things I wondered when I read this book is why Loki didn’t name Lilly Eve, but then I thought that might be a little too precious. Then I thought about it some more, and decided that I liked the name Lilly for this character. Then I wondered if maybe Lilly was somehow related to Lilith, who was Adam’s first wife and the most dangerous demon and mother of demons, in Jewish mythology. And I decided that if it is, that is really cool. I also decided that if it wasn’t, it was still really cool. These are the things that go through my head when I’m reading. It doesn’t matter if I’m reading a book to be blogged or one that is a pleasure book, these are the things I think, especially if I’m reading late at night, like I did with this one.

I love Lilly. She may not always think all the consequences of her actions through, but she really commits to them. She’s smart and stubborn and she knows what she wants to do and she is more than willing to go out and do what she needs to do to get what she wants. I think Adam underestimated her a bit. There is a lot of kinkery fuckery going on along with some spanking, chains, and cages. I mean come on, it’s a Loki Renard book. There’s got to be a cage somewhere. I loved this one. I mean, I pretty much love all Loki’s books, but this one is going to be close to my heart, I think. I never really knew what was going on, and every time I thought I had a good handle on things, Loki through a twist in there. And just wow.

abandoned-architecture-building-767047

Of course, there is a reason that Loki chose not to call Lilly Eve, but I had already had my thoughts before I got to that point in the book, so that did explain that. I felt so sorry for Eve, just so sorry. I mean, what the people who created her did to her was just sheer evil. They should totally burn in hell. Definitely in the lowest, deepest, burny-ist pits of hell. They deserve no better.

OK, that’s all I have to say about this on. Go check it out. Happy reading!

D.D Galvani just gets better and better with each book. Sonny’s Surrender has everything you want in a MC book.” ~ Amazon Review

“This book will leave your heart full of emotion and love. Excellent writing.” ~ Spunky N Sassy

LOVE this MC series by DD Galvani. It’s not only chock full of HOT bikers, but it’s a continuous story of love, life, and family ties.” ~ Amazon Review

See what I thought of this book!
Santino De Campo is no stranger to pain. His ex burned him in the worst way possible. Lying, cheating and running off with his newborn son. He left no stone unturned, desperate to find his boy. His ex could burn in hell but his son would know his father.

How can he let his his brothers know he fell so far? To the point that the woman he thought was the one could leave him without a backward glance?
Years later, he meets a woman that sets his soul on fire. He decides to take a chance and see where it goes. Soon after his world turns upside down when Gia comes face to face with a child that can only be Sonny’s missing boy. His resemblance to the man she’s beginning to fall for is uncanny and he’s not alone. With him are two young girls and together the three children are living a life no child should ever have to live.
With his new relationship being put to the test, Sonny must fight like hell to blend his club, his long-lost son, the two young girls and the woman he loves. Would the Devil’s Wind have his back after finding out the secret he’s been keeping from them? Will the baby, now a boy and his “sisters” accept him into the family, or will Sonny surrender to the inevitable and be alone for the rest of his life?
“Four months later, when I went home to visit my mom, I got a knock at the door one night. She was strung out and looking for money, and she had a belly, the rest of her was bones, but that belly stuck out. If there was ever a time I’d ever wanted to hit a woman, that was it. My mom saved her. She made her come in, cleaned her up, fed her, and called a friend who helped us get her into rehab that night. She cursed and screamed at us to leave her the fuck alone, but that was my kid she was messing up. I didn’t give a shit what happened to her, but that baby didn’t deserve to be born to a junkie mom and an absent dad. I made a deal with her that if she stayed in rehab, got clean long enough for the baby to be born, that I would take care of everything else. She agreed, but only if I made myself scarce. She didn’t want to see me or hear from me until she gave birth.”

Dukes finally said something. “I think I know where this is going, but you need to finish, purge this shit from your system, Sonny.”
Getting up, I started to pace. “I crawled into the bottle and stayed there ‘til he was born. It dulled the pain and helped me not to face the fucking mess my life was. That day in the hospital when they placed my son in my arms, my life changed. He was perfect, Dukes. He didn’t give a fuck that I was a screwed up ex-marine or that his mom was a junkie whore. When I left the hospital that day, I went to an AA meeting. I was determined to be a better man for my son.”
   “And Kelsey?” he asked.
I laughed bitterly. “She had other ideas. She played the new mom role ‘til she was discharged. I walked beside her wheelchair down to the car where her married friends were waiting with a car seat and a bag full of new baby clothes. She gave me a hospital card with an address written on the back where she and the baby would be living. I’d given her money for the first and last month’s rent when she brought me the papers. She had gotten a job at a local daycare where she could bring the baby to work with her. It didn’t pay much but having the baby with her was worth it, and I was going to be there to pick up the slack financially. But it was all a fucking lie!”
My fist flashed out, hitting the wall with a sickening thud. I heard my knuckle crack and knew I’d broken it, but I didn’t care. “She lied about all of it, and when she drove away in that truck, it was the last time I saw her and him. I went to the apartment that never heard of her, the daycare that looked at me like a crazy man, the couple who didn’t exist in any database in the country. My sponsor kept me sane, coming home to the club gave me purpose. I hired the PIs and did what I could to find them, but I didn’t let it consume me. I was afraid of falling into that deep, dark pit and not being able to claw my way out again. I wanted my son to know that his ol’ man was more than a broken down, drunk ex-soldier.”

D.D. Galvani was born and raised on Long Island, New York. She moved to Florida in 2002 and lives there today with her husband of 37 years. She has two children and one beloved grand daughter whom she spoils as much as she can. She is an avid reader and crafter and decided to put those two loves together and Swag by NaNa was born. After working around author’s for a few years, she asked a couple to look at a story she had written and was blown away that they liked it. They pushed her to finish it and her first novel Fighter’s Claim, an MC romance came to be. She writes strong alpha males and sassy intelligent women. Welcome to her world!

Elizabeth Knox-Scarred

Elizabeth Knox gives us today’s MC book, Scarred. It’s the first book in a new series. I don’t always give trigger warnings, mostly because I tend to let y’all know if something is dark, but there are times when I think they are necessary. This is one of those times. There are graphic descriptions of domestic violence and sexual assault. If those things will trigger you, even if you like MC books, I would highly suggest that you not read this one.

Roxy has been with Rage since they were teenagers. She got together with him after her dad died. But now, after years of behing his wife and punching bag, she regrets it. His name describes him all to well and the bad boy that she thought she married has turned into a monster who just gets worse every day. There hasn’t been in a day in years that she hasn’t undergone some kind of abuse, and no one in the club really stops it, and in fact, many of them have joined in. But now she’s pregnant and hiding it from Rage. She knows she should get away but she’s also terrified that if she does get away, Rage will hunt her down, especially if she has his child. But when he beats the ever-living shit out of her by beating her with a baseball bat and leaving her nearly dead outside the clubhouse, everything changes.

Tex is Rage’s best friend. He was involved with Roxy first, but then Rage decided he wanted her, so Tex stepped aside. He’s spent the years in the club trying to avoid Roxy as much as possible. He’s gone to do as many errands as he could just so he doesn’t stay around. When he’s around, Rage isn’t as bad, but Tex doesn’t know that. In fact, he doesn’t know the majority of what Rage has done to Roxy. But when he comes home to find her bleeding to death outside the clubhouse, he knows that he has to do something. He takes her to the hospital and then manages to get her away before anyone Rage can send can take her back to the club.

I felt like this was two books that got shoved into one. I think that the story would’ve been much better if it had been spread out into two stories, that way each part of what was going on would have gotten the attention that I thought that they deserved. The two parts of this book both have a very different feel, and they just don’t quite mesh as well as they could’ve. I did like the story, even with those issues. I thought Roxy was a pretty kick-ass character. She’s survived through all kinds of terrible stuff, and she’s still standing. I do think that everyone should’ve listened to her a little more than they did, but men. What are you going to do?

clouds-environment-gloomy-347149

I have to say, if I were in Roxy’s place, I would’ve been really pissed off at Tex and I wouldn’t have forgiven him quite as easily as she did. I mean, he knew what she was going through. He knew that Rage was going off the rails, so why he didn’t step in before, I don’t know. I would’ve been angry with him for a good while, even if I loved him.

OK, that’s all I have to say today. Happy reading!
