Lee Savino-Night of the Berserkers

Lee Savino writes a great menage series about Berserker werewolves. I’ve reviewed them here before. This book takes place in that world, but isn’t a strict part of the current timeline in the overall story, kinda. Lee and a bunch of other authors got together to write a set of books called Night of… They are all RH books, meaning 1 woman and at least 4 male partners. Night of the Berserkers is part of that set.

Now, you might remember back a couple of weeks ago, I posted something about my thoughts as to what made an RH vs. what made a menage. Part of my theory was that as soon as more tools than orifices came into play, it turned into an RH. Ava Sinclair pointed out that she thought of it as the way that the relationship breaks down. In a menage setting, gene, ally everyone’s having sex together, all the time. Not all the time and not always, and it depends on the relationship. But in RHs, generally you are getting a 1-1 encounter and the relationship dynamic is different. The men are all in a relationship with the same woman, but not necessarily in any kind of sexual relationship with each other (even if they aren’t actually doing each other, having sex with the same person at the same time counts as a sexual relationship, in my mind). I’m really interested in what other people think about it.

Anywho, back to the Berserkers. Anyone who has read the series is familiar with Yseult. She is a witch. In fact, she is the witch. She trains Sabine, she helps out the sisters in the original Saga, she helps the Berserkers. She’s sneaky and sometimes a little shady, but I’ve always kind of liked her, so I’m really glad that we get to see a story for her.

Yseult’s witchy sisters have gotten together to send her back to find out what spell was used to bind the Corpse King a thousand years ago so that they can try to bind him again. The only problem? When she gets there, she discovers that her witchy magic is gone. She still has her spaewife innate magic, but not her learned witchy magic. She has no clue how she’s going to figure out what’s going on now.

Meanwhile, back that the ranch… Ok, not a ranch, King Lycaon’s castle, one of his guards has woken from a dream where he sees a woman he doesn’t know but has known forever. Two of the Berserker guards go out on patrol and find Yseult where she is lying asleep in a field. Sadly, they have to take her back to the castle, where she has to be tested so that they can find out if she’s the type of woman that the king likes.

Oddly enough, the day after I finished reading this book, my husband and I were watching some documentary and they talked about King Lycaon. Sadly, I’ve slept since then and all I can remember is that he was king of Arcadia, somewhere in Greece and that he managed to piss off Zeus somewhat spectacularly.

Anyway, 4 of the Corpse King’s guards, Tristan, Ivar, Lars, and Magnus, are incredibly drawn to Yseult. This is especially true for Magnus after she manages to help him control himself. Together, they all decide that they are going to do everything they can to protect Yseult.

This is a great story and I like the way that it adds to the world. I love finding out more about Yseult at all and about her past. I’m not quite sure how it will fit in with the rest of the world and the storyline in general, but I do feel like it advanced it some and I’m eager to see what’s going to happen in the next Berserker books.

I really don’t have too much to say down here because the book is really short enough that anything else I would say is going to spoil something. So, go pick it up and enjoy it for yourself. Happy reading!

Zoe Blake-Defying Him

I am always down for Zoe Blake and her particular flavors of darkness. She always brings us a fun treat to read, one where we can enjoy the story and enjoy the sex. She’s done it again with Defying Him.

Unlike her last couple books, we aren’t getting a dark Daddy Dom. This time we get a hot man in a Marine uniform. Which, yes please. Have you ever seen those boys in the full get up? OMG, lick them like a lollipop. OK, where were we?

So, Phoebe is an investigative journalist. She specializes in going undercover and getting her story. She’s damn good at it. When she gets to work, her boss tells her that he has a new job for her. There are have been some strange murders at a military acadmy, and she is the perfect person to go in and find out what’s going on. Her boss thinks that the Navy may be hiding something, and he wants to know for sure. He sets her up an ID as an associate professor in English and sends her in.

Michael is the new commandant of the academy. It’s his job to find out what is going on at the school. No one else has been able to pin down the murderer and he’s going to improve the security. When his secretary, who doesn’t really approve of him, sends in the new English professor, Michael immediately tries to send her home. He’s trying to scare her off because she looks just like the other women who were murdered, sadly, Phoebe is not the type to be intimidated easily.

The first chapter of this book is awesomely creepy as fuck. How many of you remember the 1, 2, Freddy’s Coming For You chant that came out of Nightmare of Elm Street? Yeah, that scared the piss out of me when I was young, but it really set the atmosphere. That’s what this chapter does. It totally sets the scene of the entire book. This is a suspense/murder mystery/thriller/erotic romance kind of thing. And it’s really good. It isn’t a real instlove, so much as instalust that builds quick.

The killer was creepy. The reasoning behind it was just creepier.

I got a little mad at Phoebe’s boss for sending her into a situation that was very dangerous, since she looked just like the other victims. However, she probably would’ve have done it even if she hadn’t waited until she got there to see the victims’ pix. She’s stubborn that way.

OK, that’s all for this one. Happy reading!

Measha Stone-Beast

We’re back to another adult fairy tale and another version of Beauty and the Beast. This is a very, very kinky version of the story. Walt would be spinning in his grave if he even thought that his company would have anything to do with this. Although, the way that the House of Mouse is taking over the entertainment industry, I expect that they’ll have a porn department in the not-so-distant future. Can you imagine what that Disneyland would be like to play at? LOL. I would be down for that. But, that’s not getting us to Measha’s latest release, Beast.

Ellie’s dad is a wastrel. He gambles money he doesn’t have and then gets in deep to loan sharks and bookies. She does everything she can to dig him out, including selling off her mother’s jewelry, but it never works. So, when Ash Titon’s men come into their cafe and drag her father away, she knows that she has to do something. What she does is go to Ash’s house and offer herself in her father’s place as a way to pay off his debts.

Ash is amused when he is bearded in his lair by the little spitfire that is Ellie. She says that she will do whatever she has to and whatever she can to pay off her father’s debt. Ash is concerned and not sure about it until she passes the test he sets her, which includes his fingers in her bits in front of her father. There’s just something about her and the way that she stood and took it that attracted him to her. Over her father’s complaints, he decides that he will keep her.

When Ash’s cousin questions what he is going to do with her, he tells her to put her in a room next to his. All he knows at this point is that he’s going to keep her, even though there is a suggestion that he might take her to The Annex and sell her. Nope, he’s going to keep her and play with her.

OK, you know how it goes. This book has some dark aspects to it, including dubcon and a lot of BDSM. I like those parts, but they aren’t everyone’s tisane, so be aware of that going in. There is also a great story that goes along with that, so you aren’t just getting the sexy sexy parts. There are a lot of plots in place, and it can be hard to figure out what’s going on before Measha wants you to know everything, and even then, she has surprises in store for us. She’s a tricksy, tricksy author. Yay! That’s what makes us keep going back to our favorite authors, right? Anyway, this is a great one, and it’s definitely going to be part of my adult fairy tale collection.

pexels-photo-257360

I never liked Ellie’s father. I thought that he was a scummy scumbag. I mean, what kind of man lets his daughter dig him out of trouble and offer herself up for him? I mean, he didn’t argue all that hard when she did it. Jerk.

Ash spent a long time being a conundrum to me. It took him some time to figure out exactly what he wanted and what he was going to have to do to. Luckily, he was able to get his head out of his arse, but Ellie should definitely have smacked him around a little bit.

OK, that’s all for this one. Hit up Zon and check it out. Happy reading!

About Anna

Anna hails from the rural countryside near London. She previously worked as an accountant, and while she still does a bit of accountancy on occasion, the majority of her time is now spent writing and looking after her family.

An avid reader herself, Anna turned to writing to combat depression and anxiety after her diagnosis in 2015. She loves travel, hunky heroes with dirty mouths, demure but spunky heroines, and dramatic suspense. You will find all four woven into each of her magical stories.

Dani Rene-Madd Ink

This is going to be a quick little review because Madd Ink by Dani Rene is a quick little read. The publishers for it specialize in quick and dirty reads for when you just want something hot and sexy to read. And Madd Ink fits perfectly in that.

Ryn learned her lesson years ago. Don’t trust men. It’s better for her if she just stays on her own with her 5-year-old daughter Roxie. And that definitely means that she needs to stay away from Slade Maddox, cop and man whore.

Slade loves women. He knows he loves women. He doesn’t think that he will ever settle down to just one woman because there are just so many women and so little time. When he goes to his best friend’s tattoo parlor to get a tattoo touched up, he sees Ryn and is fascinated by her.

OK, this is where we’re going to part. There isn’t a whole lot of story here, but you know that going in. It’s a lovely piece of fluffy candy for your mind. I am perfectly fine with that, and the story met that need 100%.

pexels-photo-320260

The story does move quick, but it has to. I really don’t have too much to say down here because anything I say about it is going to be a spoiler. So, I liked it. It was good. I’ll keep it in a reread list, especially for days when I need something quick and easy to read.

OK, that’s all I have to say today. Happy reading!
